Key points to take away from the first lesson!

· The idea of the Christian right to conquer land was one important aspect of the motivation for colonising North America.

· Colonists were also eager to build and develop - they thought that this was the correct way to manage land.

· Colonisation had a devastating effect for the Native American tribes who were killed by diseases or war and eventually forced away from their lands.

· Colonisation had an equally destructive effect for the natural environment of North America.

· BUT: Although they are a small population, native American tribes are still active today and we will investigate their relationship to nature, and discuss if their views are something we can learn from in order to find solutions that can help us solve environmental and climate problems.
